Many people think of Tofu as boring and bland, steering clear of cooking with it; and certainly its appearance and texture doesn’t do much to elevate it to the star status it actually deserves.

What I love about Tofu, is its sponge like qualities making it the perfect vehicle to absorb flavours and add depth to any dish.

Cooking with Tofu provides an opportunity to experiment with a variety of bold and intoxicating flavours you wouldn’t ordinarily combine.

It’s a versatile and robust ingredient that can be combined with meat, chicken, fish, in soup, curries, salads and in desserts.

These Tofu Sticks are a wonderful platform to showcase Tofu as the main ingredient.

Marinating the Tofu allows the many flavours to permeate through the Tofu and when baked, results in a healthy, light and full of flavour snack for the entire family to enjoy.

1 Teaspoon Fresh Ginger (finely diced)

Method
Drain the Tofu and pat dry with paper towels.

Baked Marinated Tofu Sticks Montage
Combine the marinade ingredients; pat dry the tofu and cut into sticks; marinade the tofu for 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Place the sesame seeds onto a small flat plate. Dip the marinated tofu sticks into the sesame seeds covering both sides of the tofu.

Line a tray with baking paper and place the sesame covered tofu onto the baking tray.

Cover the marinated tofu sticks with sesame seeds and bake until golden brown.

Bake the tofu sticks for approximately 20 minutes, turning the tofu from time to time to ensure both sides are evenly cooked. They will turn golden brown and be crisp to the touch.

Serve the Baked Marinated Tofu Sticks while hot accompanied with the marinade sauce.

Note
As the Tofu Sticks start to cool they will become firm to touch and slightly chewy. If you have any left-overs, cut the sticks into cubes and add to a salad.

Serve the Baked Marinated Tofu Sticks accompanied with the marinade sauce.
