This cake is a typical one made in Burma (Myanmar) and is very popular in that country.
This is an unusual recipe, and quite different to how I would normally make a cake. It requires no electric mixer of any sort but is first cooked on the stove top.
An easy recipe if you want your young children to cook.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes plus 30 minutes standing
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 8 - 10 servings
Ingredients
400 ml coconut cream
2½ cups semolina
1½ cups sugar
1 tsp salt
3 egg whites
½ cup butter
1 tbsp poppy seeds (optional)
Cream (optional)
Method
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients except the poppy seeds and cream.
Add some water gradually, a bit at a time, and mix until the mixture becomes a soft dough.
Let is stand for about 30 minutes, and you may have to add a bit more water to make it soft enough to stir in a pan.
Preheat the oven to 150°/130° fan forced.
In a non stick wok, turn the heat to high, and add the soft liquid dough.
Keep stirring in one direction until the dough becomes thick and is cooked (about 5 - 10 minutes).

It will look like this when done
Line a baking tin with baking paper and spread the dough into this.
Bake until the top of the cake turns a dark brown.
Remove from oven and let it cool.
If using, sprinkle with poppy seeds, and serve either with or without cream and a hot cup of coffee!
