For a simple and scrumptious snack, my Cheesy Tomato Pullaparts are perfect! They are made using ingredients that most of us would already have on hand, making them a quick and convenient choice as a snack, a light lunch or a side-bread. They're also a great recipe to make with the kids.
Ingredients 2½ cups self-raising flour
2 tsp Italian herb blend
40g butter, chopped
1¼ cups milk, approx.
½ cup tomato sauce
2 cups grated tasty cheese
Preheat oven to 200C. Line a 19cm x 29cm slice pan with baking paper.
Sift flour into a large bowl, stir in herbs, then rub in butter with fingertips.
Using a round-bladed knife, stir in enough milk to form a soft, sticky dough.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead until smooth, and then roll out to make a 30cm x 40cm rectangle of approximately 1cm thickness.
Spread tomato sauce over dough, then sprinkle 1½ cups of the cheese.
Roll dough up from the longer side.
Cut roll into 12 even slices. Place slices, cut side-up, in prepared pan and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until dough is lightly browned and cheese is melted.
My Cheesy Tomato Pullaparts can also be easily turned into Pizza Scrolls. Simply add ingredients like shaved ham, diced capsicum, pineapple, or anything else you like to the saucy base before sprinkling the cheese.
