Chickpea Dosa - Indian Veggie Omelet

Chickpea Dosa, for its looks, is famously known as vegetarian omelet in North India. Itís an instant snack item which can be prepared at a short notice without much of a preparation. And to make it easier, the ingredients that go into it are also very easily available.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 5-10 minutes
Makes: 8-10 servings

1 cup Chickpea powder
1/4 cup roasted semolina
1 finely chopped tomato
Finely chopped coriander
1 finely chopped green chilli
1 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp carrom seeds
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 pinch turmeric powder
Salt to taste


Take some Chickpea powder in a bowl and add semolina and some water, to make the batter. We need to take due care that the batter is neither very thick nor very thin. Water should be added gradually while mixing the batter to control the thickness of the batter and to avoid lumps.

Add chopped tomatoes, coriander leaves, cumin powder, green chillies, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, carrom seeds and salt to taste to the above mixture and mix it well.

Add 1 tsp oil on a non-stick pan and heat it. When the pan gets hot, pour the batter on it and spread it to make a circle.

Allow it to heat on a medium flame till it turns golden brown in color. Once it gets cooked on one side, flip it on the other side and allow cook it for few seconds.

Your vegetarian omelet (chickpea dosa) is ready to be served alone, with chutney, sauce or pickle. Or you may have it with bread and cheese.
