There is nothing quite like a hot buttered crumpet for breakfast - or indeed anytime of the day. You can butter on toast, but somehow it just isn't the same. For some reason buttered crumpets add that extra comfort factor. Add a bit of vegemite into the equation and breakfast can't get much better.
There are a lot of different things we bake, be it cake, biscuits, or bread, but crumpets are something we tend to only buy from the store. Although they are not particularly hard to make, I think some people feel a bit intimidated by them. Crumpets do need patience, and equipment that you probably won't just have lying about your kitchen (crumpet dishes), but if you enjoy cooking from scratch then crumpets are well worth the effort.
How long it takes will depend on how many crumpet dishes you have and the size of your frying pan. I can make four crumpets in a batch.
