Easy Date Scones

These scones are delicious and so easy to make, crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, with the sweetness of the dates making them the perfect sweet treat for afternoon tea.



Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 8 scones

Ingredients
2 cups self raising flour
2 tsp white sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp cold butter, chopped
1/2 cup dried dates, chopped roughly
150mL milk
1 egg

Method
Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Add butter and rub into the dry ingredients with your hands until mix is slightly crumbly.





Stir in dates.



Mix milk and egg in a small jug.



Gradually add milk and egg to flour mixture, mixing until dough is just combined.





Kneed dough on a lightly floured surface for about 30 seconds (don't kneed too much or the scones will be tough!) and roll into 8 round scones. Place on a lined tray, brush lightly with milk and bake for 10 -15 mins or until golden.






Serve warm either with butter or jam and cream.
