Garlic Bread Baguette

Italians were the first makers of garlic bread. The first type was bruschetta, which was sprinkled with garlic and drizzled with olive oil. In most cases today, garlic bread uses butter, but olive oil is still popular. When I wanted to make garlic bread a while ago, the only recipes I found involved buying flat plain naans from the shop and breading them with butter and vinegar. I therefore decided to go it alone and make my own from scratch. Based on the brands I used, each slice is about 125 calories. Here are some of my bread making tips.

Preparation Time: 2 hours 40 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 14 servings

Ingredients
500g wholemeal bread flour
300ml water
2 tsp fast action yeast
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp dried basil
40g garlic
40g light margarine

Method
Mix the flour, yeast, and salt together.
Gradually add the water to form a dough.
Knead for ten minutes, then prove for about an hour.
Punch down the dough and roll it into a sausage shape.
Cut thirteen slices across the dough, the prove for another hour.
Pre-heat the oven to 210 ༠C/ 190 ༠C fan/400 ༠F/6 Gas.
Cream the butter with the chopped garlic, then spread the mixture into the cut slices of bread dough.
Bake in the oven.
