Gulab Jamun - Sweet Dumplings

‘Gulab Jamun’ is a traditional dessert, which has been relished over generations by people of all age groups. The sweet comprises of spongy dumplings called the Jamuns dipped in rose scented hot sugary syrup called Gulab.



Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 15 -18 servings

Ingredients
1 cup milk powder
1/4 cup multipurpose flour
1 tsp cardamon powder
1/2 cup curd to prepare the dough
1/2 tsp rose water
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Oil to deep fry the dumplings

Method

Preparation of sweet dumplings
Mix the milk powder and the multipurpose flour in a bowl, and knead to a soft dough.
Add a little curd to soften the dough.
Set the dough aside for 5 minutes.



Roll the dough into small dumplings, keeping the size of the balls small, as they will grow once they get dipped in the sugar syrup later.



Heat a little oil in a frying pan and fry the balls until they turn golden brown in colour.




Preparation of sugar syrup
Boil a glass of water in a pan and add equal amount of sugar in it.
Stir it continuously for around 5 minutes, so that the sugar gets dissolved.
Add a little cardamom powder and rose water to the syrup, to enhance the flavor.

Now transfer the fried dumplings into sugar syrup and leave them to soak the syrup for 10-15minutes.



The ‘Gulab Jamuns’ are now ready to be served hot. You may also refrigerate them for some time and relish them when they get cold.
