Halva Balls and Greek Coffee
Halva Balls With Greek Coffee

This modern twist on traditional halva takes me back to happy childhood memories of my grandfather who first introduced me to halva and Greek coffee. These no bake Halva balls are easy to make and are a moorish treat with Greek coffee. Serve as morning or afternoon tea, dessert or wrap as a gift.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 hours
Serves: 12

1 cup tahini (hulled)
1 cup honey
1/4 cup pistachios
1/4 cup of sesame seeds
2 tsp Greek coffee
2 tsp sugar
1 cup water

Place baking paper on a baking tray.
In a bowl mix the tahini and honey until a smooth consistency is reached.

Mix the tahini and honey until there is a smooth consistency

Roughly chop the pistachios so they are about the size of sesame seeds. Larger chunks are ok as it will give the balls extra texture.
Combine the pistachios into the tahini and honey mixture.

Roll the tahini, honey and pistachio mixture into 3-4cm balls and roll in the sesame seeds, place on a baking tray and refrigerate for 2 hours to set.

Halva Balls rolled in sesame seeds are moorish
The sesame seeds give the halva a nice delicious crunch.

When the balls are set and ready to be served, put water in saucepan on medium heat to warm the water. Add the Greek Coffee and sugar and let it float as the water warms up.

Bring the coffee to almost boiling, while continually stirring. There should be a froth starting to form on the surface of the coffee.

Greek Coffee let the mixture sit on the surface
The coffee should have a froth starting to form just before boiling.

Allow to stand for one minute before pouring into 2 small cups.
Serve the halva balls and Greek coffee and enjoy.

Greek Coffee let the mixture sit on the surface
Greek Coffee is best when let to sit for one minute before drinking.

The balls will harden the longer they are left in the refrigerator.
These balls are ideal for morning or afternoon tea, dessert or wrap as a gift.
Increase to 1/2 cup sesame seeds and make log shaped halva.
If you do not have a specific Greek/Turkish coffee pot use a small saucepan.
