Homemade focaccia is perfect for a café style grilled sandwich or great to serve with dips. Make this a day in advance and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself. Your guests will not believe you made it yourself.
Preparation Time: 100 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Makes: A large focaccia loaf.
Ingredients 350 ml of warm water
20 grams of fresh yeast
1 tablespoon olive oil
500 grams of plain flour
1 teaspoon of sea salt.
Additional sea salt to garnish
Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Place warm water and yeast into mixing bowl and stir gently. Yeast will start to activate and froth after a few minutes.
Add oil, flour and salt. Stir until dough comes together.
Empty onto lightly floured surface.
Using wet hands knead for 5 minutes. Dough will be VERY sticky.
Place dough into greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
*Rest for around an hour or until dough has roughly doubled in size.
Knock the air out of dough and tip it onto baking tray. Shape however you like. I prefer one large loaf.
Allow loaf to prove for a further 30 minutes. During this time preheat your oven to 200degrees fan forced.
