Jammy Hearts

A delicious way to use up some leftover pastry and jam. These are really tasty, and children will love making and eating them.



Pastry


Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes or until pastry is risen and golden.
Makes: 12 servings

Ingredients
350g ready-rolled puff pastry
1 small egg, beaten
Blackcurrant jam (or whatever flavour you prefer)

Method
Preheat the oven to 230°C
Unroll the pastry onto a floured surface, and using a heart (c9cm diameter) cut out as many rounds as the pastry will allow.

Using a 1cm cutter, cut a smaller in the centre of half of the rounds and remove it.
Put the plain rounds onto a baking sheet.
Lay the rounds with holes on top of each of the plain rounds.

Fill the heart-shaped hole with a splodge of jam.

Put the lid on top of the jam.



Pastry


Brush over the lid and round with beaten egg.
Bake in the oven for around 10-12 minutes, or until golden and well-risen.
Serve with a generous splodge of cream.
