I love this custard recipe for so many reasons. The ingredients are always on hand, it is quick to whip up in a bind with very little cleanup, and it can stand alone or as an accompaniment to a strongly flavoured desert like plum pudding. It is also great for getting eggs into the kids without them knowing!

Serves: 6 as a standalone dessert
Ingredients 5 cups of milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup cornflour
1/3 cup sugar
Put all the ingredients except sugar into a large saucepan
All ingredients except sugar are added to a large saucepan.
Whisk ingredients in saucepan together over heat until bubbling then simmer for 2 minutes.
