Quick Bread Rolls

Ready in 25 minutes. Great as warm dinner rolls with butter or cold and filled with your favourite meats and salads for lunch or picnics.

They freeze well and can be made gluten and lactose free.


Dinner rolls
Hot out of the oven served as dinner rolls with butter


Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 6 large or 12 small rolls

Ingredients
3 cups plain flour (gluten free, if required)
2 tsp bicarb soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups milk (lactose free, if required)
1/8 cup milk, for brushing (lactose free, if required)
Flour, to dust

Method
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and line a baking dish with baking paper.
Whisk the flour, bicarb soda, cream of tartar and salt in a bowl to combine.
Add the milk and stir until a dough ball forms.
Turn dough out on a floured bench top and lightly knead for 2 minutes until smooth.
Roll into a log and cut into 6 portions.

Knead the dough ball lightly and roll into a log

Roll each portion into balls and place on a baking dish. Make a large cross on the surface, brush with milk and dust with flour.
Bake for 12 - 15 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool on a wire rack and serve warm with butter or cold with your favourite fillings.
