Just because you're cooking for one doesn't mean you can't have a balanced meal, and just because you don't have much time doesn't mean you have to sacrifice on flavour or health.
You can have a great meal on the table in under 10 minutes.
This simple steak sandwich takes little time to prepare from scratch and will leave you pleased you took the effort!
Preparation Time: 2 minutes
Cooking Time: 7 minutes
Makes: 1 serving
Ingredients
1 piece minute steak
2 slices fresh bread
Butter if you like it
Cheese
1/4 brown onion, chopped
Ranch dressing
Wholegrain mustard
Spinach leaves (or lettuce of your choice)
Method
Pan fry your minute steak for 4-5 minutes, until cooked on both sides.
While steak is cooking, chop onion and set aside. Next, lay out your first slice of bread and butter it if you are using butter.
Cut cheese into thin slices then put cooked minute steak onto bread and top with ranch dressing.
Cooked onion for 1-2 minutes until brown and place on top of the dressing.
Top with wholegrain mustard and spinach leaves, put the other slice of bread on, cut, arrange on your plate and you're done.
At this point I will note that the layering of the sandwich is important for maximum effect of all the flavours and textures - the ranch dressing going directly on the steak enhances it's flavour, and placing cheese directly on top of sizzling onions helps it to melt deliciously without having to heat the bread. Of course, if your bread isn't completely fresh, you could always grill the sandwich now, but there really is nothing like soft, fresh bread to sink your teeth into!
