Ingredients 35g rolled porridge oats
200ml semi-skimmed milk
1-2 tbsp double cream
3 or 4 tinned strawberries in light syrup (you could also use fresh strawberries)
You can make porridge oats in a microwave or on a hob. If you are using fresh strawberries then add them before you cook the porridge. If you are using tinned, add them afterwards.
To make porridge in a microwave combine the oats and porridge in a bowl and cook on full power for about 2 minutes.
To make porridge on the hob, pour the milk and porridge into a saucepan and bring them to boil. Once it starts to boil, stir until the milk is absorbed and the porridge starts to get thick.
Once the porridge is done add the cream. You can add as little or as much as you like to your own taste.
If you're using tinned strawberries and them, and a little of their juice, now.
Mix it all together and enjoy a bowl of delicious, creamy, strawberry porridge.
Variation: If you'd like to enjoy it as it would have traditionally been eaten in Scotland then the cream should be in another dish on the side. This was to make sure the porridge stayed hot - you would take a spoonful of porridge and dip it into the cream or milk. I don't like doing that because I find I have much more cream that way!
