Good quality fresh tuna is expensive but a must, particularly when tuna is eaten raw as sashimi or seared rare to medium. I would normally visit the Sydney Fish Markets to get my staple, however I was lucky to receive a large batch of freshly caught Blue Fin Tuna from good friend and colleague Al McGlashan.

This simple Tamari glaze complements the flavour of the tuna but is secondary to the fresh, melt-in-your-mouth barbecued flakes of seafood greatness. This quick and delicious dish will persuade you to venture outdoors and light up the BBQ for a dish you can enjoy over a few lazy wines with family and friends.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes

Good quality fresh tuna is a must particularly when tuna is eaten raw as sashimi or seared rare to medium like this Tamari Glazed Tuna.

Ingredients
1 Large Tuna Steak

For The Glaze
2 Tablespoons Tamari
1 Teaspoon Tahini
1 Teaspoon Mirin
˝ Teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Method
Combine the Tamari, Tahini, Mirin and Olive Oil in a small bowl and mix together to make the glaze.

Slice the tuna steak into halves and brush the glaze liberally over the two pieces of tuna. Marinade for 10-15 minutes.

Use good quality fresh Tuna.

While tuna is marinading, pre-heat the BBQ to 180-200°Celicius.

Place the glazed tuna steaks onto the BBQ and cook for approximately 1-2 minutes on each side, spooning some of the glaze over the tuna as it cooks.

BBQ the glazed tuna for 1-2 minutes on each side.

Serve immediately with charred broccolini and potatoes and some Tahini Sauce.

Serve the Tamari Glazed Tuna Steaks with some vegetables and Tahini Sauce.
