Fresh and tasty, the walford salad burst into the world in 1893 at New York City's Waldorf hotel. Created by Oscar Tschirky, the hotel's maitre d'hotel, the salad gained massive popularity after its central role in Fawly Tower's "Waldorf Salad" episode.

Makes: 2 servings
Ingredients 2 red apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 stalk celery
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 lettuce, or 2 cups of lettuce leaves
optional – poached chicken
Wash the apples well, but leave the skins on. Cut the apples into 1cm cubes then sprinkle with lemon juice.
Chop celery and walnuts.
Toss apples, celery, and walnuts together. (optional – slice poached chicken breast into 1 cm cubes and also toss into the mixture)
Add mayonnaise and mix through.
Either: Spoon the mixture onto lettuce cups, or toss through lettuce leaves to serve.
