My husband loves bread. There is always a loaf of bread sitting in our refrigerator. Baking bread is something that I always wanted to try, but I was not sure if I would be able to do it justice. I have never cooked with yeast before and there was no yeast in our kitchen. I stood there confused, with the refrigerator door open. I saw a half empty carton of buttermilk and had an idea. If I can make buttermilk scones, buttermilk bread does not sound impossible either. The result was rich, extremely soft and fluffy bread, and it requires no kneading.
Ingredients 2 cups of plain flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
2-teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 large egg
¼ cup melted butter
1½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
Heat oven to 180 degree celsius and grease a pan with cooking spray.
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, oregano leaves and salt in a bowl.
Take another bowl and mix buttermilk, egg and butter in it.
Pour liquid mixture into the dry mixture and mix it with a spatula until flour is incorporated. Do not overdo it.
The batter will look shaggy. Transfer it to the greased pan and bake it for approximately 45 minutes or until it is golden at the top.
Insert a toothpick in the bread and if it comes out clean, it means that the bread is done.
