A Killer Smoothie Recipe that Promotes Weight Loss
Not everyone gets their full servings of fruit and vegetables every day. Even those of us who follow a solid diet plan each week can fall behind on getting our daily maxes on essential fruits and veggies. There are a thousand excuses for not eating them, but when it comes time to hit the scales, they don’t seem all that valid anymore. Luckily, making a delicious, healthy smoothie each morning can help us not only achieve our fruit and veggie goals, but exceed them. With blenders being practically a dime a dozen, it’s easy to get a decent one for your kitchen if you don’t have one already. When it comes to excuses, there is no excuse not to be able to incorporate a healthy smoothie into your daily diet.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 minutes
Serves: 1
Ingredients
1-2 Cups of Baby Carrots (depending on how much you like carrots)
3/4 - 1 Cup of Blueberries (frozen or fresh)
1 Cup of Old Fashioned Oats (or Steel Cut Oats)
1 Whole Banana
2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter or Almond Butter (sugar free or natural)
3 Tablespoons of Plain, or Fat Free Greek Yogurt
1 Teaspoon of Honey or Dark Agave Nectar
1 Scoop (25 grams) Vanilla or Banana flavored protein powder
1 Scoop Superfood Greens powder
2 Dashes Cinnamon powder
1/2 Cup of
Pomegranate Juice
Enough water to cover up all of the ingredients in blender.
Method
Put all ingredients into the blender and blend on high for about 30 to 45 seconds until everything is of equal consistency.
You can add more water as it blends in order get it as thick or as thin as you prefer.
Yes, it will look purplish and green. That just means you’ve done it right.
It’s not necessarily going to taste as sweet as many health shakes you’ve tried before, but that’s kinda the point. We want to get maximum nutrition with the fewest amount of sugary carbs.
What’s this shake thing all about?
This shake really covers all the bases when it comes to nutrition. Many shakes that you can get at your local smoothie shop (I’m not naming names, because they can put out good ones, sometimes) contain too many carbs and calories and not enough insoluble dietary fiber to be considered a real component of a healthy diet. They are a good start, but they just don’t take the ball to the end zone; which is why I started making my own. This shake emphasizes the essential nutrition holes that crop up in our diets every day: lack of fiber, missing fruits and veggies, lack of protein. I took all of those problems and solved them in one shake.
It’s all in the superfoods!
The other important thing in this shake is the hearty serving of a good green superfood powder. Most superfood powders contain over 10 times the daily value of antioxidants and the nutritional equivalent of 25 to 30 servings of fruits and veggies. No, eating one scoop of superfoods per day isn’t going to mean that you never have to eat any fruits or veggies after, but it does significantly help you to maintain the nutritional balance as if you did eat all of your servings each day. Beyond a healthy diet and exercise,
mindfulness enhances recovery and improves overall mental stability. Meditation, yoga, journaling, and others, are a great way to accompany your smoothie.
This killer smoothie is a perfect replacement for a complete breakfast. Go ahead and try one, you’ll be glad you did.
