So named because they were made by the monks of Furness Abbey, abbey biscuits contain oats, and were therefore a stable part of their diet. It was one treat they could have that would not be considered a sin. Based on the brands I used, each biscuit is about 53 calories.
Wait for them to cool for a crunchy biscuit, or eat them warm from the oven and they taste just like a sweetened porridge.

Ingredients
85g porridge oats
85g self-raising flour
85g demerara sugar
85g margarine
1 tbsp water
1 tsp golden syrup
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
Method
Pre-heat oven to 180 ༠C/ 160 ༠C fan/350 ༠F/4 Gas.
Mix together the oats, flour, bicarbonate of soda, and sugar.
Melt the margarine, syrup, and water in a saucepan.
Pour into the dry ingredients, and mix together.
Roll into teaspoon size balls and flatten slightly.
