Apple Chips

Posted 2012-12-20 by Lucy follow
A unique way to feast on apples. These apple chips are surprisingly delicious and ideal for school lunch boxes, car trips or picnic treats. The gorgeous star shape is created by slicing across the apple core and makes it a fun new way for children to eat apples.

An unusual ways to use up excess apples

Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 120 minutes
Makes: 5 servings

They may look dried out, but these apple chips are actually super delicious

Ingredients
5 ripe apples (any variety)
3 Tablespoons cinnamon sugar

Method
  • Thinly slice the apples - make sure you slice across the core to get the lovely "star" shape.

  • Arrange the apple slices on a baking tray

  • Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar onto a plate and coat each apple slice lightly in the spices.

  • Coat each apple slice gently in spices

  • Arrange the cinnamon sugar-coated apple slices on a baking tray and place in the oven on low heat (120 degrees celsius) for 120 minutes. Check on the slices every 20 minutes to ensure they aren't burning. If you are lucky enough to possess a food dehydrator, then of course, use it instead of putting your apple slices in the oven.

  • Allow apple slices to cool and pack into clip lock bags for picnics or school lunch box treats.
