Apple Satsuma Pie

Apple pie might originate from America, but it has also been a traditional British dessert for centuries. It is a real comfort pud that warms you up inside, and remind you of home. It's one of those things that you say 'just like mum used to make'.

Well my apple pie is not like mum used to make, or as far as I know, how anyone has made. I've put my own take on apple pie, with a few added ingredients like satsumas and pecans.

Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 6 servings

Ingredients
240g wholemeal plain flour
100g margarine
1 tbsp caster sugar
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp demerara sugar
1 tbsp almond milk
200g baking apples
2 satsumas
40g pecans
1 egg

Method

  • Pre-heat oven to 200 & #3872 ;C/ 180 & #3872 ;C fan/375 & #3872 ;F/5 G.
  • Blend the flour, margarine, caster sugar, and egg in a food processor until it forms a dough ball, and then chill it in the fridge for ten minutes.

  • Peel and chop the apple.

  • Roll out the pastry and cut it in half.

  • Blitz the apple peel in the food processor and then roll into each half of the pastry.

  • Line a pie dish with one half of the pastry.

  • Add half the chopped apple, and then layer satsuma segments on top.

  • Add the rest of the apple, and then place pecans on top.

  • Sprinkle over the granulated sugar.

  • Cover the pie with the other half of the pastry.

  • Brush the milk over the pastry, and sprinkle demerara sugar over the top.
  • Bake in the oven.
