Baked Bacon in Maple Syrup on an Egg and Cheese Toastie
There are several ways I have made this combination of food, and this time I made it as a toastie.
Previously I have put it between two slices of bread and put it in the sandwich press, however I thought maybe not everyone has a sandwich press, and this version is also very delicious, and has slightly less bread.
I have used half a round roll as I had one left over, however a slice of bread would work just as well.
Alternatively you could use two slices of bread and cook it in a frypan with butter on the outside of the bread.
No matter how you assemble it, these ingredients are a lovely taste sensation when mixed together! The slight sweetness of the baked bacon is delightful with the cheese and egg.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 1 serving
Ingredients
Bottom half of a roll
2 slices of shortcut bacon
2 - 3 tsp maple syrup
1 egg
2 slices cheese
Bit of butter
Method
Preheat oven to 175 ° fan forced.
Put the bacon on baking paper or on a rack and bake for about 10 minutes.
I always use short cut bacon as there is little fat on it
Pour the maple syrup over the bacon and baste both sides with it.
Return it to the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes or until it starts to brown.
Meanwhile fry an egg in a bit of butter in a non stick pan for a few minutes.
I turned the egg over so the yolk would be slightly firmer and not run everywhere when I bit into it.
I turned off the heat before turning the egg over
Meanwhile, toast one side of the roll under the grill.
Put a slice of cheese on to the untoasted side of the roll.
Add the bacon.
Put the egg on top of this.
Top with another slice of the cheese.
Put back under the grill and grill until the cheese has melted and is starting to brown.
EAT!
