Baked Banana Chips

I love banana chips, well that is I loved them until I discovered they are fried. I know I was upset too. This seemingly healthy snack is turned into fried junk food. On top of that there is added sugar and preservatives, no wonder they are so ludicrously yellow.

I abandoned eating banana chips until I saw a recipe for baked banana chips. They are not as yellow and do take a bit of time to make, but they are amazing!

It’s crucial that the temperature is spot on (any lower and it will take forever and any higher, they will burn). Also use just-ripe bananas and cut to 1/8 inch pieces. It is important to try and get them uniform. Or some will be dark and others soft.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 3 hours
Makes: 4 servings

4 bananas
2 lemons

Preheat oven to 110˚c

Peal and slice your bananas into ⅛ inch slices and place in a bowl. Cover with fresh lemon juice then spread out in a single layer on a baking tray covered with baking paper.

Bake until bananas have dried out, 2-3 hours.

Check your banana chips after about 90 minutes and carefully flip. I used my fingers as the bananas were soft.

Return to the oven and let cook for another 30-60 minutes.

Once crisp and golden remove the chips from the oven and keep in mind they will crisp up more as they cool.

Enjoy these healthy, sweet and almost toffee like banana chips!

NOTE:If you remove the banana chips too soon and they do not start to crisp after about 5 minutes of being out of the oven, return to the oven for another 15 to 20 minutes.

Yum, I just made some of these, before I read this article. I didn't cook mine for as long as you indicate in your recipe, so they were probably much softer than yours. They were still yummy though. I love bananas, raw or cooked!
Mine were super crunchy and delicious but it is a long time. Next time I will cut them thinner and watch them like a hawk. I am a banana addict too!
