Baked Cabbage and Sausages
This will warm you up on a cold night - it's filling and delicious, making it the perfect cosy comfort food. It's also super easy to make, you just prep the dish on the stovetop, then pop it in the oven for a few hours.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 2-3 hours
Serves: 4
Ingredients
1/2 head of green cabbage
2 garlic cloves
4 rashers of bacon
5 pork sausages
Method
Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F).
Slice the cabbage and finely chop the garlic.
Place the bacon in an ovenproof pot, place on a burner and turn the heat on low. The bacon should release some fat, which it will cook in.
When the bacon starts to curl, turn the rashers over using tongs and cook for another few minutes, or until it starts to brown.
Remove the rashers and add the sausages. Cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the sausages to brown. Turn them constantly.
Add the garlic and cabbage. Stir well. The sausages will probably start breaking up, which is totally fine.
Chop the bacon, then return to the pot.
Sprinkle the dish with salt and pepper. (I find it doesn't need much salt as the bacon makes it rather salty.)
Cover the pot and place in the oven. After 90 minutes, take out of the oven and stir. Remove the lid and return the pot to the oven for the remaining 30 minutes.
Take the pot out of the oven and serve immediately.
