Baked Cinnamon Doughnut Holes

Confession - I love doughnuts. They're one of those delicious sometimes foods that make you happy inside. Here is an easy recipe for making cinnamon doughnut holes at home, in the oven rather than the deep fryer. They're perfect for parties, a quick dessert, or a fun snack.

Make these using a doughnut hole cake pan if you have one, but if not, never fear. A mini cupcake pan also does the trick.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 48 doughnut holes


To make the doughnuts

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 2/3 cups plain flour
1 cup milk

To make the cinnamon coating
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (to taste)


Preheat the oven to 160 C (if using a doughnut hole pan) or 180 C (if using a mini muffin pan). Lightly grease the pan.

Beat together the oil, sugars, and butter until smooth.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating until just combined after each addition.

Add the baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
Stir to combine.

Alternate between adding flour and milk, stirring after each addition, until a smooth batter forms.

Spoon the batter evenly between the doughnut hole cups or mini muffin cups.

Bake for 5-17 minutes, or until a cake testing skewer comes out clean.

While baking, prepare the cinnamon coating.

In a bowl, mix together the sugars and cinnamon.

Pour the cinnamon mixture into a paper bag. Place 5-6 cooked (still warm) doughnut holes in at a time and shake to coat them in the cinnamon mixture.

Serve warm.
