Baked Oatmeal

Baked oatmeal is a traditional Amish breakfast casserole that is easily adaptable for whatever fruit you have on hand.

It is delicious straight out of the oven and you can keep your leftovers in the fridge for other days. Simply eat cold or reheat in the microwave.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30-40 minutes
Serves: 8

Ingredients
3 cups rolled oats
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 egg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
2 apples peeled and chopped
1 cup sultanas

Method
  • Preheat oven to 180C and grease a large baking dish.
  • Place the chopped apples in the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Combine the oats, sugar, milk, butter, egg, cinnamon, salt and sultanas in a bowl and mix until combined.

  • Pour the mixture over the top of the apples and level the top.

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden and the oats are set.
  • Serve topped with syrup, milk, fruit or cream.
