Baked Pears

Baked pears sounds a bit boring but these are mouth wateringly delicious. For this dish, the flavor of the pears is the highlight, so I've tried not to drown it out with too many flavors. You could add a bit of red wine or port to this or caramel sauce, but I prefer to keep it rather pure.

Dessert is served

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

4 Juicy Pears (any variety)
8 tablespoons caster sugar
2 tablespoons filtered water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 lime (zest and juice)
1 tablespoon butter

Ripe pears ready for baking

Peel, core and halve your pears. Place them into a well greased oven proof baking dish.

Warm the filtered water, butter, caster sugar, vanilla extract, lime zest and lime juice in a saucepan until the caster sugar has dissolved, then pour over the prepared pears in your oven proof baking dish. Cover tightly with aluminium foil and bake in a moderate oven for 60 minutes or until the pears are tender and soft.

Baked Pears

Let the pears "sit" for five minutes, then serve with thickened cream or ice cream and a sprinkling of ground cinnamon.
