Banana and Chocolate Dumplings with Maple Caramel Sauce
This tasty dessert is something a bit different from your usual cake or pudding. Each mouthful has a bit of banana and chocolate and the sauce is much less sweet than you'd expect. I love mine served with ice cream.
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
Dumplings
1 cup SR flour
35 g butter
2 tbs maple syrup
2 tbs milk
1 banana
12 chocolate melts
Sauce
20 g butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tbs lemon juice
1 cup water
Method
Place flour and butter in a bowl and using your fingertips, rub in the butter until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
Add the maple syrup and milk and mix until a dough forms.
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
Slice the banana into 12 slices.
Using well floured hands, press each piece of dough into a disc and press a piece of chocolate and banana in the centre. Roll into a ball making sure no banana or chocolate is showing.
In a large saucepan over medium heat add the butter, sugar, maple syrup, lemon juice and water. Stir until butter is melted and the sugar has dissolved.
Bring to the boil then reduce the heat back to medium. Carefully place the dumplings in the syrup, they will only be half covered by the syrup.
Cover and simmer for 15 minutes until puffed and cooked through.
Serve dumplings and sauce with cream or ice cream.
