Bangers and Mash With Onion Gravy

Bangers and mash is an extremely tasty dinner that will have you believe you're sitting in an English pub. It's perfect for those cooler nights and the leftovers make a great lunch the next day.


Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients
8 sausages
2 onions, sliced thinly
500 g potatoes, peeled, chopped into even pieces
3-5 tbs butter
1/4-1/2 cup milk
1.5 tbs gravy powder
1 cup water
1 tsp oil
salt and pepper, to taste

Method
  • Place the potatoes into a saucepan and cover with water. Season with salt and boil until the potatoes are tender.
  • While the potatoes are cooking place the sausages into a frying pan over medium heat and fry until cooked through. Approx 5 minutes each side. Remove from pan and keep warm.
  • Add the oil to the frying pan and heat to a medium heat. Add the onions and fry until the onions are soft and brown. Approximately 15 minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine the gravy powder and water.
  • Pour the mixture over the onions and cook until gravy is the desired consistency.

  • Once the potatoes are cooked, drain the water and return to the heat. Using a potato masher, mash the butter into the potatoes. Once mashed, add the milk and stir until the potatoes are light and fluffy. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Assemble by placing 2 sausages on top of a generous serve of mashed potato. Cover in onion gravy.
