Beef and Feta Gozleme
I first came across this dish at a local market, where it was being freshly made by the vendor. It took next to no time and was so delicious.
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 4 servings
Ingredients
1 cup Greek natural yoghurt
2 cups self-raising flour
1 onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, crushed
500g beef mince, lean or extra lean
3/4 cup feta, crumbled
2 cups baby spinach leaves, roughly chopped
Middle Eastern spice blend or taco seasoning mix
Olive oil
Method
Combine yoghurt and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
Slowly stir in self raising flour until a dough forms.
Tip dough onto floured surface and knead until firm, but slightly sticky.
Place in a bowl and stand, covered for 30 minutes.
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan.
Add the onion and garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add the mince and break up any lumps.
Stir in the spice mix and cook until well browned.
Transfer to a bowl and let cool for 10 minutes.
Stir through cheese and spinach.
Divide the dough into 4 portions.
Roll each portion out into a 30cm round.
Spoon filling on half of each round.
Fold dough over to enclose filling and press sides to seal
Heat a little bit of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
Place gozlemes onto frying pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until brown and crispy
Cut gozleme into quarters and serve with lemon.
