Even our little furry friends can enjoy foods enriched with marrow. Food trend or not, dogs will devour this vegetable risotto made with beef bone marrow.

Our dog, Jasper is on heart medication which manages his MVD and the secondary symptoms of the disease; namely fluid on the lungs and kidney toxicity.

His cardiologist and naturopath suggested adding marrow to his food or making bone broth for him on a weekly basis.

Although there are many beneficial reasons to include bone broth and marrow to the diet, with Jasperís condition it is a naturally effective remedy in helping to reduce inflammation in his stomach and intestines and also helps the kidneys with detoxing from the medication he takes on a daily basis.

Of course, Jasper is none the wiser of the health benefits this super-food has on his system, he just loves the taste.

Beef Bone Marrow and Vegetable Risotto has many health benefits for your little furry ones.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 3 Hours
Makes: 6 Serves

1kg Beef Bones with Marrow
2 Teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Carrots
2 Potatoes
2 Celery Stalks
1 Cup Brown Rice
1 Large Beef Steak
1 Teaspoon Fennel Sees
1 Teaspoon Turmeric

Place the beef bones into a large pot and cover with water.

Beef Bones contain marrow and when cooked provide both humans and animals with one of the best super foods available.

Add the apple cider vinegar, fennel seeds and turmeric and bring the water to a boil.

Cook for 15 minutes on high, skimming the froth from the top of the broth.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 3 hours.

While broth is cooking, cook the rice in a separate saucepan of water until tender then rinse and drain and set aside.

Adding some vegetables to this risotto provides a well balanced meal for your little furry ones.

Dice vegetables and cook in a separate saucepan of water until tender then rinse and drain and set aside.

After 3-hours of slow cooking, the broth will have reduced significantly. Scoop out the marrow and blend into the broth. Remove the bones from the broth.

Add the rice and vegetables and cook for another 5 minutes.

The dish will resemble a risotto with the marrow thickening the broth almost to a jelly like consistency. Watch as your pets devour this super nutritious meal.
