Beetroot Halwa

Beetroot halwa also know as beetroot fudge is a healthy, nutritious and delicious dessert made out of grated beetroot and full cream milk. The dish is rich in iron and its lovely color make it attractive as well.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 30-45 minutes
Makes: 2-3 servings

1 cup grated beetroot
2 tbsp ghee
500 ml boiled milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp raisins
1 tbsp chopped cashew nuts
1tbs chopped almonds
1/2 tsp cardamom powder


Wash the beetroots well under the running water and scrub them to remove the mud and dirt from them.

Peel the beetroots and grate using a food processor or a grater.

Heat a little ghee in a thick bottomed pan and add all the chopped dry fruits to it. Mix them well.

Now transfer the grated beetroot to it and continue stirring it for about 4-5 minutes.

Add milk to the ingredients and keep stirring. Simmer the gas and let the ingredients cook on a low flame, till it becomes a thick paste. It generally would take around 30-35 minutes.

Add the sugar and stir well till the beetroot gets a nice glaze and dry up completely.

Garnish the ‘halwa’ ( fudge) with cashews, almonds and cardamom and serve it hot.
