Bircher Muesli

Bircher Muesli

Posted 2017-06-14 by Bastion Harrisonfollow

The original breakfast muesli was invented by and named agter Maximilian Bircher-Benner. The Swiss physician made it for his patients, but it is now a breakfast staple. Today muesli has developed into a type of cereal we have with milk, straight from a box. The early 20th century version, however, was soaked in water with apple and yoghurt, and left over night.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes, plus soaking time
Cooking Time: N/A
Serves: 6

Ingredients
200g porridge oats
400ml water
200g goats' yoghurt
1 apple
120g strawberries
2 tbsp baobab powder (or sweetener - optional for extra sweetness)

Method
  • Pour water over the oats in a seal able tub.

  • Slice the strawberries, grate the apple, and stir in with the yoghurt and baobab powder.

  • Seal the tub, put in the fridge, and leave overnight.
