Caramel Slice

Irresistibly gooey, chewy, and all round delectable, this caramel slice is far easier to make then its result would suggest. Great idea for a sweet, homemade treat, or when you want to entertain and impress!



Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Makes: 10 servings

Ingredients
1 cup self raising flour
1 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 brown sugar
1 cup oats
150g butter, melted
395g can light condensed milk
2 tbsp golden syrup
30g butter, extra
150g dark chocolate melts, melted

Method
  • Preheat oven to 180C.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, coconut, brown sugar, oats and melted butter.

  • Press firmly into the base of a lined baking tray and bake for 10 minutes and until golden brown. Remove to cool once done.

  • Over a medium heat, bring the condensed milk, golden syrup and extra butter to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Keep stirring until light brown colour.

  • Pour the caramel mixture over the base and return to the oven to cook for a further 10 minutes.

  • Finally, spread the melted chocolate melts over the caramel filling. Allow to cool and then place in the fridge to set before serving.
