Chawanmushi Japanese Steamed Egg Custard

Craving for Japanese food? Well, Chawanmushi is the answer for you. This is a simple and yet delicious egg custard that can be done in just a few minutes.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:
4 Eggs
4 Shrimps
4 Pre-soak shiitake mushrooms
4 tbspn Kinkoman sauce (Japanese soy sauce)
100ml Water

Garnish:
Spring Onion



Method
  • In 4 small bowls, place one shrimp and one soaked shiitake mushrooms into each bowl. (Mushrooms can be cut into strips depend on personal preferences).



  • In a medium bowl, crack the eggs and gently stir them using a chopstick or fork until well blended.

  • Add Kinkoman and water into the blended eggs. Then stir gently.



  • Using a strainer, filter the egg mixture into the 4 small bowls prepared earlier.




  • Cover the egg mixture in the bowls with cling wraps and place them in the steamer.


  • Steam for 10-15 minutes or until the eggs are set.
  • Use a spoon to check if the eggs are ready


  • Garnish with some spring onions and the eggs are ready to serve.
