Cheese and Celery Loaf

This cheese and celery loaf is good for morning or afternoon tea or a snack. If served topped with cold meat and tomato or other salad vegetables it is nice as a light lunch.



Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 12 slices

Ingredients
2 cups SR flour
90g margarine or butter
1 cup grated matured cheese
1/3 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder


Method
  • Sift SR flour into medium sized bowl.
  • Rub in margarine.
  • Mix in celery, cheese and garlic powder.
  • Add milk and beaten egg.

  • Add celery, cheese and garlic powder


  • Mix to a soft dough.
  • Knead lightly in bowl.
  • Turn out onto floured board.
  • Form into a rough oval shape.

  • Place on greased oven tray.
  • Brush top with a little milk.
  • Bake in moderate oven for about 30 minutes until light brown.

  • Remove from oven


  • Serve warm or cold, sliced and buttered.
