Cheesy Cheese Sticks or Twists

Even beginners can make this simple yet satisfying savoury snack. I made these little delights one afternoon in Ramadan, and they were a winner.

Preparation Time: 1hr 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 25-30 minutes
Makes: 9 servings

6 frozen puff pastry sheet squares about 15 centimetres wide (defrost these for about one hour or longer)
1 ½ cups finely grated mature cheese
1 Egg (whisked)
Ground black pepper

Lay two puff pastry sheets on a clean work surface, and spread some butter over them.

Take a generous handful of cheese and sprinkle over one buttered pastry sheet. Sprinkle a pinch of pepper over the cheese.

Put the second pastry sheet, buttered side facing down, over the cheese covered sheet.

Press gently and then brush with egg glazing.

Sprinkle more cheese over the glazed top. Then cut the sheet into three strips.

You can leave them like this, and they will turn out as sticks. Or if you want them to be twists, hold each end of the stick in each hand and twist in opposite direction, once or twice.

Sprinkle some more cheese over the sticks and add some pepper.

Repeat the previous 7 steps on the remaining pastry sheets.

Put into a pre-heated oven at about 200 degrees, and cook for 25-30 minutes or until hardened and golden brown.

Eat hot or cold. I hope you enjoy!
