Chinese BBQ Pork (Char Siu)

Chinese BBQ Pork or Char Siu is a famous roasted pork dish that everyone loves. It is perfect with steamed rice, noodle or even with a steamed bun! If you are a "Char Siu" lover, you will love this recipe. It makes juicy, moist, tender and delicious BBQ Pork.

Preparation Time: 24 hours
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

500g pork fillet, cut into 4 pieces
3 clove garlic, finely chopped

Char Siu Sauce
2 tablespoons maltose
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Chinese rose wine
3 dashes white pepper powder
1 teaspoon five-spice powder
1 teaspoon sesame oil

The Ingredients

Mix all the ingredients for the Char Siu Sauce in a saucepan. Heat and stir until well combined and become slightly thickened and sticky. Transfer to a bowl and let it cool down.

Marinate the pork pieces with 2/3 of the sauce and garlic, and leave it overnight in the fridge. Keep the remaining sauce in the fridge.

Pre-heat the oven to 190 degree C fan-forced. Remove the pork pieces from the marinade and roast for 15 minutes. Take them out of the oven and brush with the remaining sauce.

Change the oven temperature to 220 degree C fan-grill. Roast the pork pieces for a further 10-15 minutes or until perfectly charred.

Slice the pork pieces into bite-size pieces, drizzle with the remaining sauce and serve immediately with steamed rice, noodle or steamed buns.
