Chocolate And Orange Shortbread

Shortbread, the easy to make, well-loved biscuit that is a Scottish classic. Famously tasty, simple to cook, and easily tweakable recipe - master this basic and add what you like.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25-30 minutes
Makes: 10 servings

200g plain flour
125 unsalted butter
50g caster sugar
1 tsp of sugar
25g milk/dark chocolate
Half an orange

Mix the flour and sugar in a large bowl. Once mixed add the butter and turn into breadcrumbs using your fingers - but press it into the flour and sugar, you want to keep it 'together'.

The less you work the dough the better, and the shorter it will be.


Once the dough has come together turn it onto a baking sheet of paper.


Grate the chocolate and squeeze half an orange into the dough. Then use a rolling pin to flatten it out to just over 1cm thick.


Lift the baking sheet onto a baking tray and push the dough down.

Scatter about a tsp of caster on top to make it authentic, then pop in the oven for 25-30 minutes.

After 25 (if golden remove at this time) - 30 minutes remove, slice and enjoy!


Everyone loves this so don't be surprised if it's all gone of a Sunday afternoon.
