Often people get confused with macarons vs macaroons. At first I was a bit confused too when I hear the names used interchangeably. I didn't know whether it was two completely different things, two things with the same name or people just getting the names wrong. But here is a easy recipe for some tasty macaroons.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 30 pieces
Ingredients
2 cups dessicated coconut
1/2 cup caster sugar
2 egg whites
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Method
Mix the coconut, caster sugar, egg whites and chocolate chips in a bowl.
Roll teaspoonfuls of the mixture into small balls approximately 3 centimeters in diameter.
Place on a lined tray (or alternatively use a silicone mat).
Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
Allow the macaroons to cool before serving.
After note:
Do allow the macaroons to cool so that the shape holds, otherwise when just taken out of the oven it is still very fragile and breaks easily. Afterwards you will get a crunchy exterior and a soft and sweet interior.
