This slice is fantastic to eat and simple to make. It can be made well ahead of time and keeps well in the fridge. Even the kids can get in and help, or do it all themselves.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 16

Ingredients
I cup dark chocolate chips
125 grams butter melted
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 395 g can sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup instant oats
1 cup plain flour

Method
  • Grease and line a 30cm x 30cm slice tin. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  • In a large bowl combine the sugar, oats, flour and butter. Mix with a spoon until the butter is well incoporated and the mixture is crumbly. Take 1/2 a cup of the mixture out and set it aside. Press the remaining crumb, in an even layer, into the slice pan. Press it down firmly with the base of a glass or a spoon.

  • Pour the condensed milk into the pan covering the crumb layer evenly.
  • Combine the remaining ingredients with the reserved crumb mixture.

  • Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the condensed milk and press it all down gently.

  • Bake in the oven for 20 - 25 minutes until golden. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before carefully removing from the pan and slicing into squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
