ChocolateSwirled Energy Slice

Nutritious energy slice plus chocolate

This slice is made from healthy, sustaining ingredients - oats, coconut, dates and eggs - with enough chocolate to make it special.

A nourishing breakfast-on-the-go or lunch box snack.



Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 16 servings

Ingredients
1 cup dried dates
75g butter
2 eggs
1 cup desiccated coconut
2 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking powder
50g dark chocolate, room temperature.

Method
  • Heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and grease or line a square cake tin.
  • Place the dates in a heatproof jug or bowl and cover with water. Microwave on high for 1 minute or until simmering. Drain the liquid and discard (or save for bircher muesli!)
  • Soften the butter in the hot dates.


  • Add the dates, butter and eggs to a food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients except the chocolate. Blend until well combined.
  • Break the chocolate into chunks and pulse in the food processor. The hot ingredients should make it soften and spread through the mix. (If not, chunks are fine too.)
  • Pour into the tin and press down to smooth.


  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until turning golden.
