Coca Cola Braised Pork Belly
This is a very easy to make one pot dish that is tasty and heart warming! Great for winter!
Brasied Pork Belly.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 3-4 servings
Ingredients
Pork belly rashers (about 300-500g)
1 can of coca cola
1 Tablespoon Dark soy sauce
1 Teaspoon Chinese rice wine
Ginger (fresh or powder)
1 Teaspoon Cornflour
Water
Method
Prepare the pork belly by cutting the rashers into 1.5-2cm thick portions
Briefly blanch the pork belly, then drain and set aside
Season the pork belly with ginger powder (or if using fresh ginger, finely chop or grate)
Place pork belly into saucepan.
Pour enough coca cola over the pork belly to just cover it
Add in dark soy sauce and some chinese rice wine
Heat on high heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer until pork belly becomes tender
If the pork belly is ready but there is still a lot of sauce, you can reduce this by adding some cornflour mixed with a small amount of water.
When adding in the cornflour water, make sure the heat is on high so that the mixture boils to cook the cornflour through. Otherwise there will be lumps of cornflour in the sauce.
Serve with rice or noodles and garnish with chinese steamed veggies, coriander or shallots if desired!
