Creamy Peas with Fenugreek

This is a creamy preparation that goes well with bread or naan. It uses green peas and fenugreek. Fenugreek is a herb widely used in indian and Mediterranean cuisine. The seeds are also used as a spice. Along with its culinary use, fenugreek has many health benefits.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 2-3 servings

Ingredients
1 cup chopped onion.
1/2 cup fenugreek leaves
8-10 cashews
1 green chili
2-3 garlic cloves
1/2 " piece ginger
1 cup green peas
Oil for cooking
1/2 cup pouring cream

Method
  • Take little oil in a pan. Wash and cut fenugreek leaves. Fry them in the oil till they are wilted. This helps to reduce their bitterness. Keep aside.

  • Note the reduced quantity.

  • Make a paste of ginger, garlic, cashews and chili with water.



  • In the same pan fry the remaining onion, chopped fine. Saute till soft.



  • Add the ground paste and sauté till raw smell reduces.



  • Add the green peas and water.

  • Green peas, slightly boiled in microwave



  • When it is almost coming to a boil, add the fried fenugreek leaves.



  • Add some of the cream. If you do not wish to add cream, substitute it with milk.



  • Let it come to a boil. Keep stirring it till the gravy is thickened.

  • Switch off heat, cover and let it stand for few minutes.

  • Top it off with some cream.



  • Enjoy with bread or naan.
