I make my dad a packed lunch for work everyday. Usually he has 2 HLT (ham, lettuce, and tomato) rolls with a Kit-Kat, but it is usually the case that we have run out of rolls before our next shop, and he has to have sandwiches instead. Sometimes he complains about this, so out of the goodness of my heart I make him some homemade crusty rolls (just the way he likes them). They are a little smaller than the ones from the shop, but are so much easier to spread butter on. Based on the brands I used, each roll is about 137 calories. For some further help, check out my
bread making tips
Preparation Time: 2 hours 40 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 12 servings
Ingredients
500g wholemeal bread flour
1 tbsp fast action yeast
1/2 tsp salt
300ml water
Method
Mix the flour, yeast, and salt together.
Gradually add the water to form a dough.
Knead the dough for about ten minutes. If it is a little sticky spray a bit of olive oil on the work surface, the dough, and your hands. It is more effective than adding extra flour.
Prove the dough for about an hour.
Punch down the dough, then divide it into twelve squashed balls. If you want to be accurate, weigh each ball so that they are each around 65g-70g.
Bake in an oven pre-heated to 220 ༠C/ 200 ༠C fan/425 ༠F/7 Gas.
