This easy to prepare winter warmer is homely, filling and sweet, perfect with a cup of tea and a dollop of cream after a Sunday roast.

Ingredients
Dumplings
2 apples
1 cup self-raising flour
Pinch salt
2 teaspoons sugar
60 grams butter
2 tablespoons water
Butterscotch Sauce
30 grams butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons gold syrup
1 ½ cups water
Method
Sift flour and salt into bowl, add sugar, rub in butter. Add water and knead into soft dough. Peel, quarter and core the apples.
Divide the pastry into 8 equal portions carefully press each portion of pastry around an apple quarter. Place them into an ovenproof dish.
Combine all the sauce ingredients into a saucepan and stir over a low heat until the sugar is dissolved. bring it to the boil. Remove from heat and pour the sauce over the dumplings.
Bake uncovered into a moderate oven for 2-30 minutes until the pastry is golden and the sauce has caramelised.
