Domino Cookies
These cookies are fun to make and fun to eat! Making a whole set, these dominoes are great to eat with your friends or give as gifts. Why not make food fun?
Preparation Time: 15 mins (plus 30 mins chilling time)
Cooking Time: 12 mins
Makes: 28 dominoes (a whole set!)
Ingredients
90g butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup plain flour, sifted
1/3 cup self raising flour
1/4 cup dessicated coconut
20g milk chocolate buds or chips
Method
Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and creamy.
Add egg and vanilla, mix until combined.
Add plain flour, self raising flour and coconut. Stir through then mix with hands until a soft dough forms.
Roll dough between two sheets of baking paper until 5mm thick. Refrigerate for 30 mins.
Preheat oven to 160 degrees.
Once chilled remove dough from refrigerator and cut into 3cm thick strips (a ruler makes this step very easy).
Next cut stips into 5cm lengths.
Using the back of a knife, lightly press a line through the middle of each cookie, dividing the cookie into two halves. Press dots into each side of the cookie in a domino pattern using a blunt skewer or chopstick.
Place cookies on lined trays and bake for 10 - 12 mins or golden. Cool on wire wracks.
Place chocolate buds or chips in a snap lock bag and melt in microwave using 30 second bursts.
Cut a corner of the bag and "pipe" chocolate into the dots of each cookie. Be slow and careful with this step as the chocolate can be quite runny at first.
Allow for the chocolate to harden then let the fun begin! When not eating or playing with the dominoes store in an airtight container.
Enjoy!
