Easy PanFried Smelt Fish

This is my favourite fish fry. It is very tasty even with very few ingredients and is very easy to prepare.

Since the fish are very small they will turn very crispy when fried and we can even chew up the bones also.

Preparation Time: 25 minutes
Cooking Time: 4-5 minutes
Makes: 2 servings

Ingredients
250g smelt / anchovy fish
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp coconut oil
Curry leaves
Salt to taste

Method
  • Wash and clean the fish in cold water. Remove the head and stomach part. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and a little salt to the fish. Mix and keep for 2-3 minutes. Again wash in cold water. Drain and keep aside.

  • After the fish is drained well, add remaining turmeric powder, chillli powder and salt the fish. Mix well and let it sit for 15 minutes.

  • Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan. First fry some curry leaves.

  • Then add the marinated fish into the hot oil. Fry on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until it is golden brown. Switch off the flame and remove the fish from oil.

  • Serve hot with rice or as a starter.
