These scones never fail. They are easy to make and the recipe can be varied by adding extra ingredients such as a handful of dried fruit and a dessertspoon of sugar or some grated cheese and chopped bacon.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Makes: 11 medium size scones
Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 egg, lightly beaten
3/4 cup milk
2 level cups SR flour

Pour the milk into a large bowl.
Add the melted butter or margarine.
Add the lightly beaten egg.
Mix until combined. Do not mix more than necessary.
Flour a cutting board or other clean surface and pat out the dough with floured hands.
Cut out circles using a floured cutter or a strong glass, well floured.

Cut out circles.
Place scones, touching each other, on greased baking tray.
Bake at 220 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes or until
light brown.
Serve with jam and cream or if you prefer a savoury treat, cheese and gherkin.
